Known weak points
- Timing chain stretch when oil changes are stretched or the wrong oil is used: diesel rattle on start-up, P0016 code and eventual chain failure
- Glow plugs snapping off in the head on removal, so replace them only on a warm engine with penetrating oil and patience
- EGR valve sticking with soot, causing limp mode, black smoke and a flashing glow-plug light
- Electric power steering motor and torque sensor faults: steering suddenly heavy and the steering warning light on
- Turbocharger variable-vane actuator sticking on the 90/95 hp versions, with loss of power above 2500 rpm
- DPF saturation on Euro 5 cars used for short trips, plus swirl flap and intake sooting
